968 Style Side Skirts (Rocker Covers) for all Porsche 944 early dash N/A models

 

To complement our 968 rear bumper PU conversion for your Porsche 944, we have also adapted the 968 side skirts again manufactured to high quality standards from FRP (Fibre Glass Reinforced Plastic).

The original Porsche 968 side skirts (rocker covers) are made of two parts for each side of the car. These two parts consist of front wing (fender) lower covers and the sill covers.

Replicas of the original 968 rocker covers have been on the market for several years provided by other companies but effectively these replicas join the two parts together to make one long rocker cover which then fits to the top edge of the door sill shut line not perfectly replicating the original Porsche items.

We have replicated the exact look of the original two part 968 product and used a new fitting method to achieve the exact look and finish as developed by Porsche.

Fitting of the 968 Rocker Covers is relatively straight forward and can be achieved by any good body shop or any enthusiast with good DIY capabilities.

Once painted and fitted you will not notice the difference between the original 968 and your new updated looking 944.

Porsche 944 Vented Rocker Covers / Side Skirts

 

These Vented Rocker Cover (Side Skirts) provide an aggressive and wide lower profile to the side view of any Porsche 944. They fit N/A and Turbo / S2 models.

The Rocker Panels are also a great way to hide rust repaired sills without the expensive need to fit new OEM side sills.

Fitment of the Rocker Cover to any 944 is simply achieved by using any good quality urethane bonding agent which can be found at your local hardware or automotive supplies store.

RSR9 presents these high-quality and highly functional Unibal equipped Adjustable Top Mount Camber Plates for the uncompromising sport driver and for every systematically and consistently built race car.

The Adjustable Top Mount Camber Plates replace the soft and weak OEM bearings (951 343 018 03) and provide a more agile and sharp cornering performance and more direct feedback as well as precise adjustment of camber settings which may be set up and changed comfortably via the upper side. The Camber plates are compatible with the OEM suspension systems and the KW coilover kits, please contact us prior to ordering if you would like to combine them with another suspension system.

Engineered, tested and manufactured in Germany. Race-testedon the Nürburgring Nordschleife.

The RSR9 Adjustable Top Mount Camber Plates are made from high grade anodized Aluminium and feature heavy duty Unibal motorsport bearings allowing a maximum axial load of 27900N and a radial load of 93000N. The Adjustable Top Mount Camber Plates allow a camber adjustment range of 0° to -5° degrees.

968 Rear Bumper PU Conversion for Porsche 944

 

When the Porsche 968 was introduced in 1992, the world was in the throes of a global recession which darkened sales for many automotive companies, also including Porsche. The Porsche 968 was the final evolution of the original 924 and 944 and even though this car was at the time of launch slated by the motoring press for looking almost exactly like the final and outgoing Porsche 944 S2, the car was in fact over 80 percent new. But even the perfect driving experience provided by the car still did not detract from the motoring presses comments.

However, today the 968 is considered by many as the best front-engined, rear wheel drive car ever produced and to this day the car is still referenced to as the benchmark for handling and driver involvement.

There were three main features that helped this car stand out from the ‘age dating’ 944 which included a new polyurethane rear bumper, side skirts (rocker covers) which were added to help blend in with the lines of the new rear PU (bumper) and finally new headlights which adopted the old and quirky designed lift mechanism from the Porsche 928.

Over the years several owners of 944’s have invested thousands of EUR to fit an OEM 968 PU rear bumper to their cars which involves serious metal fabrication and in most cases ends up in a complete re-spray of the car.

Product specifications and installation

RSR9 have addressed this problem and manufactured a retro-fit 968 rear bumper and modified the exhaust exit and toe-eye location to match that of the Porsche 944 allowing a perfect fit and the use of the original 968 rubber beading (also known as wing beading). Fitment of our Porsche 968 replica rear bumper involves only minor modification to the back of a 944 by the means of trimming the body works original light aperture holes slightly larger with an angle or die grinder meaning that a the car only needs to be touched up with a paint pen to prevent rust. Once the 968 rear bumper is installed, you will not see any of the modifications that were undertaken, hence there is no need for a complete repaint of the body. In other words you only need to paint our 968 bumper to match the colour of your car and install it. The DEUTSCH NINE 968 style rear bumper would also allow you to revert your car back to OEM configuration with ease.

Porsche 944 turbo (951) and 944 S2 – GTS Headlight Conversion

 

Back in the late seventies 70’s, Porsche was engineering the development of its own racing legends known as the Porsche 924 Carrera GTS and GTR models. During wind tunnel development testing, Porsche determined the serious drag factors associated with the existing Porsche 924 cars pop-up headlight design when the cars were driven ‘lights on / up’.

With the 24 hour race of Le Mans in Porsche’s sights, development work started on a revised complete headlight unit which basically consisted of a ‘recessed bucket’ with a rectangular headlight installed. This assembly was then fitted into the position of the original designed headlight area and removing the additional weight of the lift motor and bar. Once installed, clear Perspex (Lexan) vacuum formed covers were fitted which followed the same lines of the front badge panel meeting the side of the front wings.

This design offered the exact same ideal aerodynamics during driving at day and night retrospectively. It also reduced the weight due to the fact that the lift bar and motor for the pop-up mechanism had been removed. And it also improved accessibility in the engine bay.

This solution offered very efficient aerodynamics and consistent weight reduction but it is less efficient than the pop up version when it comes to the comparison of light performance: The steeply raked cover causes light refraction which bends and defuses the light and therewith reduces performance.

For racing purposes, the positive effects of improved aerodynamics and weight reduction by far overweigh, but for street cars, Porsche decided to maintain the pop up design.

GTS/GTR headlight conversion kits have been offered by various manufacturers in the past. It has been reported though that fitment and product quality of these products are rather poor.

Product Description and Specifications

This GTS headlight conversion kit offered by RSR9 is a complete bolt-in solution meeting the highest quality requirements and provides very precise fitment. It has been specifically developed for the 924 and 944 and includes all parts required for the conversion. This kit has been developed and is manufactured in Switzerland.

The scope of delivery includes two lightweight GTS light housings made from FRP featuring a black gelcoat surface and being delivered in black matt finish, two Makrolon covers with nicely painted borders in glossy black, adjustable fitment tubes, headlight units and all hardware required for the installation.

The Plexiglas covers are made from 2mm thick UV-resistant Makrolon precisely replicating the shape of the OEM metal headlight covers.

Only two small holes have to be drilled in the car to fit the GTS headlight units. Both the light housings and the headlight units may be precisely adjusted. The headlight adjustment can be done by simply opening the bonnet and accessing the three grub screws from the back of the headlight housing.

Fitting the GTS headlight conversion kits to your Porsche Transaxle offers the following benefits:

  • Considerable weight savings of 13.5kg’s (OEM pop up headlights including lift bar and motor weigh 16kg’s whereas the GTS units only weigh 2.5kg’s). Weight is also saved at the very front of the car which is ideal for improved driving dynamics.

Please note that the GTS headlights are racing components with the focus on lightweight design and racing functionality, therefore a reduced lifetime and slight compromises in the daily driveability can occur (lightweight Makrolon covers are less scratch resistant than heavy glass units and condensation can build up in the GTS housings).

The scope of delivery includes two lightweight Dual GTS light housings made from FRP featuring a gelcoat surface and being delivered in primer (almost ready for painting in the cars colour code), two Makrolon UV-resistant covers which can be painted with borders in the colour code of the car, adjustable fitment tubes, headlight units and all hardware required for the installation. The light unit fitting assembly items are made from stainless steel in order to offer best longevity.

The transparent covers are made from 2mm thick Makrolon and precisely replicate the shape of the OEM metal headlight covers.

No drilling needs to be done on the chassis for fitting the GTS headlight units. Both the light housings and each headlight unit may be precisely adjusted. The headlight adjustment can be done by opening the bonnet and is easily accessible.
